Spotlight: Rochdale Capital

Rochdale Capital

Rochdale Capital is a nonprofit community development loan fund that provides financing and technical assistance to cooperative enterprises, small businesses and community-based organizations nationwide. Revolve Fund provided some of Rochdale's first operating capital to deploy a multi-million dollar contribution from its founding and strategic partner, the National Cooperative Bank.

Rochdale used a Kresge Foundation planning grant to partner with the National Bankers Association Foundation to produce the July 2024 report, A Turnkey Model for Leveraging Direct Pay to Advance Solar and Renewable Energy Finance. The report details Rochdale's efforts, and encourages other partners, to finance community-centered solar projects in under-resourced communities using Direct Pay.

Spotlight: The Family Tree

The Family Tree

Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) is a statewide initiative that is designed to eradicate child care "deserts" in Maryland communities by assisting interested individuals become licensed Family Child Care providers. The Family Tree's Baltimore City Child Care Resource Center provides training, technical assistance, and support to participants seeking to become licensed providers and small business owners.

With funding from the Revolve Fund, the Center was able to provide critical support to participants in the GOFCC program. Funding from Revolve allowed the Center to provide participants with essential equipment and materials– like changing tables, safety, gates, and musical instruments–which are not only essential for licensure, but also needed for providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive. Moreover, the funding helped to remove real barriers to program participation by alleviating some of the financial burden associated with starting up a child care program.

Feedback from participants who received materials support:

  • “The resources I received, including equipment like pack and plays, a changing table, and toys, have been invaluable in helping me thrive in my role and eliminated the stress of me having to figure out how I was going to pay for these materials with limited income.”
  • “The materials that I received were instrumental in helping me to get my license. Had I not received the items, I wouldn’t have been able to get my license. It can be very costly when trying to prepare for inspection.”
